Key Concepts
Our participatory Responsibility, Empathy and Tolerance (RET) process has the potential to encourage participants to externalise everyday attitudes and issues that affect them. Additionally drama, music and visual arts activities can help people express and go on to examine why certain behaviour is counter productive and how it can be improved.
We believe our approach has the understanding and structure to safely explore the ideas of the participants enabling them to positively express their thoughts and perspectives on life, their place in society and within their communities.
We believe that the tensions created through the interplay between 'nature and nurture' have both a positive and negative impact on the behaviour of human beings. It is those pre adult experiences, which can have an adverse effect on how we live our lives and communicate with those around us in society.
By giving participants this opportunity to review their previous decision making and choices; their relationships with family, friends and community and their uncertain futures, our process develops self-awareness. Even more importantly it both encourages people to reflect on the choices they have made and to contemplate their future paths in a Responsible, Empathetic and Tolerant (RET) manner.
Why Restorative Arts?
- We believe our RET process can have a dramatic impact on the way people choose to live their lives and help develop decision making practices. Children and Young People are at the heart of the process and help shape and inform the process-including the evaluation pre, during and post project.
- We are committed to child protection regulations (all facilitators have enhanced CRB checks).
- We are providing the highest quality service possible within our field of expertise in the UK. Our RET process is facilitated by highly experienced and trained Community Arts facilitators.
- We are the only company to facilitate the RET process using participatory drama, music and visual arts projects/workshops within the UK.
- A full post project evaluation report is provided by Restorative Arts UK, which highlights the success and challenges of the project and the progress of individual participants. This will also convey and discuss Restorative Arts UK and staff's experience of the project and create an open dialogue regarding the next stage in participants rehabilitation or reintegration back within their communities. (we can provide a visual record documenting the development of the group through the project which, can be produced using photographs, video and personal accounts - if required this will not expose the identities of the participants).
- Post project support and advice is available to both participants and staff.
- "Considering our future stories" - further development of stories/ideas by participants received and commented on by the company up to six months post project.
- The structure of our process means that we are flexible to adjust to any issue based work requirements from each establishment/organisation.
